1:1Behold I say unto you that my servant hath desired

1:2A witness that my Servant Joseph hath got the things w-

5:1Behold, I say unto you, that as my servant Martin Harris has desired a witness at my hand, that you, my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., have got the plates of which you have testified and borne record that you have received of me;

1:3hich he hath testified that he hath got and now Behold thus shall ye say unto him I the Lord am God I have given these

1:4things unto him & I have commanded him that he should

5:2And now, behold, this shall you say unto him— he who spake unto you, said unto you: I, the Lord, am God, and have given these things unto you, my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and have commanded you that you should stand as a witness of these things;

1:5stand as A witness of these things nevertheless I have

1:6caused him that he should enter into A covenant with

1:7me that he should not show them except I Command him

1:8& he hath no power over them e[x] cept I grant it unto him &

5:3And I have caused you that you should enter into a covenant with me, that you should not show them except to those persons to whom I commanded you; and you have no power over them except I grant it unto you.

1:9he hath A gift to translate the Book & I have commanded

1:10him that he should shall pretend to no other gift for I will

5:4And you have a gift to translate the plates; and this is the first gift that I bestowed upon you; and I have commanded that you should pretend to no other gift until my purpose is fulfilled in this; for I will grant unto you no other gift until it is finished.

1:11grant unto him no other gift and verily I say unto you

1:12that woe shall come unto the Inhabitents of the Earth

5:5Verily, I say unto you, that woe shall come unto the inhabitants of the earth if they will not hearken unto my words;

5:6For hereafter you shall be ordained and go forth and deliver my words unto the children of men.

1:13if they will not hearken unto my words for Behold if

1:14they will not believe my words they would not believe

1:15my servants if it were possible he could show them

5:7Behold, if they will not believe my words, they would not believe you, my servant Joseph, if it were possible that you should show them all these things which I have committed unto you.

1:16all things O ye unbelieving ye stiffnecked Generation Beho-

5:8Oh, this unbelieving and stiffnecked generation— mine anger is kindled against them.

1:17ld I have reserved the things which have been spoken of

1:18which I have entrusted to my servant for A wise per-

1:19pose in me & it shall be made Known unto future

5:9Behold, verily I say unto you, I have reserved those things which I have entrusted unto you, my servant Joseph, for a wise purpose in me, and it shall be made known unto future generations;

1:20Generations but for this Generation they shall have

5:10But this generation shall have my word through you;

1:21my word yea & the testimony of three of my Servan

1:22- ts shall go forth with my word unto this Generation

5:11And in addition to your testimony, the testimony of three of my servants, whom I shall call and ordain, unto whom I will show these things, and they shall go forth with my words that are given through you.

1:23yea three shall Know of A surety that those things are

5:12Yea, they shall know of a surety that these things are true, for from heaven will I declare it unto them.

1:24true for I will give them power that they may Behold

5:13I will give them power that they may behold and view these things as they are;

1:25& vew these things as they are & to none else will I gran-

5:14And to none else will I grant this power, to receive this same testimony among this generation, in this the beginning of the rising up and the coming forth of my church out of the wilderness— clear as the moon, and fair as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners.

1:26t this power among this Generation & the testimony

1:27of three Witnesses will I send forth & my word & be-

5:15And the testimony of three witnesses will I send forth of my word.

1:28hold whosoever beleaveth in my word him will I visit

1:29with the manifestations of my spirit & they shall be Born

5:16And behold, whosoever believeth on my words, them will I visit with the manifestation of my Spirit; and they shall be born of me, even of water and of the Spirit—

5:17And you must wait yet a little while, for ye are not yet ordained—

1:30of me & their testimony shall also go forth & thus

1:31if the People of this Generation harden not their

1:32hearts I will work a reformation among them & I will

1:33put down all lieings & deceivings & Preist Craft &

1:34envyings & strifes & Idolatries and sorceries & all ma-

1:35ner of Iniquities & I will establish my Church yea

1:36even the church which was taught by my Des-

1:37iples & now if this Generation do hardon their hearts

2:1against my words Behold I deliver them up unto Satan for

2:2he reigneth & hath much Power at this time for he that hath

5:18And their testimony shall also go forth unto the condemnation of this generation if they harden their hearts against them;

2:3hath got great hold upon the hearts of the People of this

2:4Generation & how far from the iniquities of Sodom and

2:5Gomorrah do they come at this time & Behold the Swoard

2:6of Justice doth hang above their heads & if they persist in the

2:7hardness of ther hearts the time cometh that it must fall upon

5:19For a desolating scourge shall go forth among the inhabitants of the earth, and shall continue to be poured out from time to time, if they repent not, until the earth is empty, and the inhabitants thereof are consumed away and utterly destroyed by the brightness of my coming.

2:8them Behold I tell you these things even as I also told the People

2:9of the destruction of Jerusalem & my word shall be verrified

5:20Behold, I tell you these things, even as I also told the people of the destruction of Jerusalem; and my word shall be verified at this time as it hath hitherto been verified.

2:10at this time as it hath hitherto been verrified & now I com-

2:11mand my Servant Joseph that he repenteth & walketh

2:12more uprightly before me & yield to the perswations of men

5:21And now I command you, my servant Joseph, to repent and walk more uprightly before me, and to yield to the persuasions of men no more;

2:13no more & that he be firm in Keeping the commandments

2:14which I have commanded him & if he do this Behold I grant

5:22And that you be firm in keeping the commandments wherewith I have commanded you; and if you do this, behold I grant unto you eternal life, even if you should be slain.

2:15unto him Eternal life even if he should be slain. And

2:16now I speak again concerning the the man that desireeth the Wit-

5:23And now, again, I speak unto you, my servant Joseph, concerning the man that desires the witness—

2:17ness Behold I say unto him if he exalteth himself & doth not

2:18humble himself sufficiently before me I will grant unto

2:19him no such vews but if he will go out & bow down before

2:20me & humble himself in mighty prayer & faith in the

2:21sincerity of his heart then will I grant unto him a vew

5:24Behold, I say unto him, he exalts himself and does not humble himself sufficiently before me; but if he will bow down before me, and humble himself in mighty prayer and faith, in the sincerity of his heart, then will I grant unto him a view of the things which he desires to see.

2:22of the things which he desireth to vew then shall he say un-

2:23to the People of this Generation Behold I have seen the things &

2:24I know of a surety that they are true for I have seen

2:25them & they have been shone unto me by the Power

5:25And then he shall say unto the people of this generation: Behold, I have seen the things which the Lord hath shown unto Joseph Smith, Jun., and I know of a surety that they are true, for I have seen them, for they have been shown unto me by the power of God and not of man.

2:26of God & I command him that he say no more except

2:27I have seen them & they have been shone unto me by the

2:28Power of God & these are the words which he shall say

5:26And I the Lord command him, my servant Martin Harris, that he shall say no more unto them concerning these things, except he shall say: I have seen them, and they have been shown unto me by the power of God; and these are the words which he shall say.

2:29but if he deny this he shall brake the covenant which

2:30he hath covenanted with me & Behold he is condemn-

5:27But if he deny this he will break the covenant which he has before covenanted with me, and behold, he is condemned.

2:31ed & now except he humble himself & acknowledge unto

2:32me the things which he hath done that is wrong & cove-

2:33nant with me that he will Keep my commandments

2:34& exercise faith in me Behold I say unto him he shall

2:35have no such vews for I will grant unto him no such vews

5:28And now, except he humble himself and acknowledge unto me the things that he has done which are wrong, and covenant with me that he will keep my commandments, and exercise faith in me, behold, I say unto him, he shall have no such views, for I will grant unto him no views of the things of which I have spoken.

2:36of which I have spoken & if this be the case I command him

2:37that he shall do no more nor trouble me no more Con-

5:29And if this be the case, I command you, my servant Joseph, that you shall say unto him, that he shall do no more, nor trouble me any more concerning this matter.

2:38cerning this matter & if this be the case Behold I say unto

2:39you Joseph when thou hast translated a few more

3:1pages & then shalt thou stop for a season even untill

3:2I command thee again. then thou mayest & excep

5:30And if this be the case, behold, I say unto thee Joseph, when thou hast translated a few more pages thou shalt stop for a season, even until I command thee again; then thou mayest translate again.

3:3thou do this Behold thou shalt have no more gift & I will

3:4take away the things which I have entrusted with thee &

5:31And except thou do this, behold, thou shalt have no more gift, and I will take away the things which I have entrusted with thee.

3:5now because I foresee the lieing in wait to destroy

3:6thee yea I foresee that if my Servant humbleth not

3:7himself & receive a witness from my hand that he will

5:32And now, because I foresee the lying in wait to destroy thee, yea, I foresee that if my servant Martin Harris humbleth not himself and receive a witness from my hand, that he will fall into transgression;

3:8fall into transgression & there are many that lie in wait

3:9to destroy thee off the face of the Earth & for this cause

3:10that thy Days may be prolounged I have given unto you

5:33And there are many that lie in wait to destroy thee from off the face of the earth; and for this cause, that thy days may be prolonged, I have given unto thee these commandments.

3:11these Yea for this Cause have I said

3:12stop & stand still untill I Command thee & I will pro-

3:13vide means whereby thou mayest Accomplish the

5:34Yea, for this cause I have said: Stop, and stand still until I command thee, and I will provide means whereby thou mayest accomplish the thing which I have commanded thee.

3:14thing I have Commanded thee & if thou art faithful

3:15in Keeping my Commandments ye shall be lifted

3:16up at the last Day

5:35And if thou art faithful in keeping my commandments, thou shalt be lifted up at the last day. Amen.
